Bergen County officials have announced the activation of the Bergen Fiber Network in Lodi, New Jersey. The event was attended by County Executive Jim Tedesco, Lodi Mayor Scott Luna, members of the Bergen County Board of Commissioners, and other local officials.
The Bergen Fiber Network is a broadband system built and operated by Bergen County for government use. It provides dedicated, enterprise-grade connectivity to municipalities, aiming to improve efficiency, security, and cost-effectiveness while giving towns control over their digital infrastructure.
“Bergen Fiber is about performance and value,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco. “Our municipalities already understand how important broadband is—but too often they’re paying more for less. By providing a fast, unthrottled network that the County owns and operates, we’re giving towns like Lodi a higher level of service while saving taxpayer dollars. That’s exactly what smart shared services should look like.”
With this new connection, Lodi will benefit from high-capacity bandwidth and improved reliability at a lower cost compared to traditional internet carriers. The network also aims to enhance cybersecurity for municipal operations and public safety communications.
“Bringing the Bergen Fiber Network to Lodi shows the power of shared services in action,” said Bergen County Commissioner Thomas Sullivan. “By working together, the County and our municipalities can provide faster, more reliable broadband, strengthen daily operations and save taxpayer dollars, delivering real benefits for the community.”
Mayor Scott Luna commented on the impact for Lodi: “Connecting to the Bergen Fiber Network is a major upgrade for Lodi. This partnership gives our Borough faster and more reliable internet service, better supports our municipal operations, and helps control costs for taxpayers. We’re proud to work with County Executive Tedesco and the County to bring this next-generation infrastructure to Lodi.”
Currently, the Bergen Fiber Network connects multiple county and municipal facilities such as borough halls, libraries, and utilities authorities throughout Bergen County. The network continues to expand as additional towns choose to participate in this shared service.
