The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a prerelease webinar for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which are set to be released publicly on September 11, 2025. The session aims to guide users on how to access ACS data and resources, as well as offer advice for comparing geographic and statistical information over time.
The ACS is a key source of statistics about the nation’s population and housing, covering topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. For many of its more than 40 topics, the ACS provides the only local-level estimates available.
According to the Census Bureau, embargo subscribers will be able to access the one-year statistics starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. This early access applies to all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, as well as other regions with populations of at least 65,000. The embargo period ends on September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this time frame, wire and distribution services are not permitted to release news stories or data files before the public release date. Details about these restrictions can be found in the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All datasets will become available to the public by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.
Those interested in embargo access can register through www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET and will feature Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office.
