Hudson County Community College Dean Burl Yearwood and Middlesex County College Professor Dr. Claire Condie appeared on “Minding Your Business” on News 12+ to discuss how their institutions are addressing the demand for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills in New Jersey. The conversation focused on the role of the New Jersey Pathways initiative in providing education and training in GIS to meet workforce needs.

“Minding Your Business,” hosted by Bob Considine, is a weekly television program produced by the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA). The show has received seven Telly Awards over the past three years, including a gold award in 2024 for Interview & Talk Show.

The guests explained that their colleges are working to equip students with practical GIS skills through programs developed as part of the New Jersey Pathways initiative. This effort aims to help fill gaps in the state’s workforce by preparing students for careers that require expertise in spatial data analysis and mapping technologies.

Yearwood and Condie highlighted how collaboration between educational institutions supports both student success and economic development by responding to industry needs for specialized technical abilities such as those offered through GIS training.
