IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen recently visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3). The visit focused on engaging with classes aimed at organizing and supporting young workers, as part of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers’ (IAM) efforts to invest in education and leadership development.

Cervantes participated in Organizing I classes offered in both Spanish and English. She emphasized the importance of providing organizing education in Spanish to ensure all members have access to leadership tools. “Her visit amplified the IAM’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, education, and empowering members at every level of the union,” according to a statement from the organization.

Johnsen met with organizers and young workers during his visit. He commended their dedication and enthusiasm, especially given the proximity to the holiday season. “Young Workers participants said the visit reinforced their role within the labor movement and affirmed that they have a seat at the table,” stated IAM.

The students attending these programs came from various parts of North America, gathering at W3 to improve their skills and strengthen their involvement with IAM.
