Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has reached the halfway mark of its $95 million New Jersey Reliability Improvement Project, which aims to strengthen and modernize the electric grid. According to the company, customers in Morris and Monmouth counties experienced a significant reduction in power outages last year. Nearly 16,500 customers saw outages drop by more than 80% in 2025 compared to the previous year due to targeted upgrades on local power lines.

“These improvements are keeping lights on more often and getting them back on faster when they do go out. We’re seeing real improvements, and we’re committed to making smart investments to bring that same level of reliability to even more communities as this work continues,” said Doug Mokoid, FirstEnergy’s President for New Jersey.

The project focuses on areas with frequent service interruptions by upgrading 18 circuits across JCP&L’s service area. Work is currently underway on seven circuits, with three additional projects starting this month and six more set to begin in early 2026. The upcoming projects are expected to enhance reliability for nearly 10,000 customers by the end of the year.

This initiative is part of Energize365, FirstEnergy’s broader investment program aimed at modernizing the electric grid. As part of this plan, FirstEnergy intends to invest $28 billion from 2025 through 2029 across its service area.
