Somerset County entrepreneur Joshua Kalafer has been named chairman of the board of trustees for Somerset Health Care Foundation, which serves as the fundraising branch for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, part of RWJBarnabas Health.
Kalafer owns Land Rover Princeton and is co-owner of Clinton Honda. He also co-owns and co-chairs the Somerset Patriots, a Double AA affiliate of the New York Yankees. Since 2013, he has chaired the Somerset Health Care Foundation Golf Outing, an event that has raised over $2 million to support RWJUH Somerset programs and services. Kalafer joined the foundation’s Board of Trustees in 2021 and was appointed co-vice chair in 2023.
The Kalafer family’s involvement with RWJUH Somerset began with Josh’s father, Steve Kalafer (1949-2021), who served as Chairman Emeritus of the foundation’s board and led several fundraising campaigns over two decades. The family has donated more than $3.5 million to RWJUH Somerset. Earlier this year, the hospital dedicated its new Rapid Decision Unit in honor of the Kalafer family.
“Through his leadership, Josh carries on his family’s legacy as champions for the advancement of health care in New Jersey,” said Donna Castronovo, vice president of development at Somerset Health Care Foundation. “He brings a wealth of experience as a successful business owner but most importantly a life-long affinity to our hospital and a deep commitment to helping ensure we provide the best medical care to our community.”
Kalafer previously owned Flemington Car and Truck Country Family of Dealerships as well as Princeton Audi and Princeton VW. His business interests also include real estate investment and start-up ventures. He holds a BA in business administration from American University in Washington, D.C., and serves on boards including New Jersey Manufacturer’s Insurance Company, The Silver Shield Foundation, and The Pingry School Board of Trustees in Basking Ridge. He has also held leadership roles at Temple Har Shalom in Warren Township.
