Medicor Cardiology, a partner practice of RWJBarnabas Health, has pledged $1 million to the Somerset Health Care Foundation. The funds will be used to support cardiology services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset.

The donation continues a longstanding relationship between Medicor Cardiology and the hospital. Over the past four decades, the group has contributed nearly $2 million to help with the hospital’s development and expansion. In recognition of this ongoing support, RWJUH Somerset has named its main lobby waiting areas in honor of Medicor Cardiology.

Josh Kalafer, chair of the Somerset Health Care Foundation Board of Trustees, said, “Their legacy of giving has helped us transform our hospital campus and advance the care we provide to our community. We are so appreciative of their continued support of our mission to build a healthier New Jersey.”

Medicor Cardiology was established in 1977 and operates offices in Bridgewater and Hillsborough. The group’s previous donations have supported several major projects at RWJUH Somerset. These include an early contribution for building the Emergency Department in 2005, assistance with constructing the Edward and Anita Hogan Neuroscience Pavilion in 2010, renovations to various units such as geriatrics and eating disorders, and funding for a five-year cardiology services expansion completed in 2023. The group also regularly sponsors fundraising events organized by the Somerset Health Care Foundation.

Rachana Kulkarni, MD, president of Medicor Cardiology, commented on the recent gift: “This contribution is more than a financial commitment. It is a statement of belief — in the power of medicine, in the strength of community and in a future where exceptional cardiovascular care is accessible for every patient we serve. We believe that the future of health care lies in partnership—between physicians and hospitals, between science and humanity and between today’s needs and tomorrow’s possibilities. Today marks not an ending, but a beginning to build a cardiovascular program that will lead with excellence, innovate with purpose and serve generations to come.”

Deirdre Blaus, Chief Administrative Officer at RWJUH Somerset added: “Aside from their financial support, Medicor Cardiology has been a tremendous partner in so many ways. Their physicians have held numerous leadership roles in our organization and have been instrumental in growing our nationally recognized cardiology program. They also give their time to conduct community health education programs and screenings throughout the year. Generations of families throughout Central New Jersey have benefited from their generosity and we are immensely grateful.”

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset is located in Somerville as part of RWJBarnabas Health. It is a regional hospital with 343 beds providing emergency care as well as medical/surgical services for central New Jersey residents. The facility serves as a teaching hospital affiliated with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

RWJUH Somerset holds national accreditation for clinical quality including nursing excellence awards; it houses Steeplechase Cancer Center accredited by relevant professional organizations.
