Governor Phil Murphy has signed new legislation that aims to protect access to vaccines and keep them affordable in New Jersey. The law ensures that immunization guidance will be determined at the state level.
The legislation requires health insurers and health benefit plans in New Jersey to cover the cost of vaccines recommended by the state’s Department of Health, with no out-of-pocket costs for patients. This move is intended to remove financial barriers for residents seeking immunizations.
According to a statement, “Legislation Requires Health Insurers and Health Benefit Plans to Provide Coverage for Immunizations Recommended by the Health Department Without Any Cost-Sharing.” The law emphasizes the importance of local oversight by specifying that immunization recommendations must be based on guidance from New Jersey’s own health authorities rather than external entities.
This measure aligns with broader efforts to ensure vaccine accessibility and affordability throughout the state, supporting public health goals and preventing vaccine-preventable diseases among New Jersey residents.
