The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) has expressed condolences following the death of former Governor Dick Codey. The organization extended sympathies to his wife, Mary Jo, who is a career educator and longtime NJEA member, as well as to his sons Kevin and Chris.
In a statement, NJEA highlighted Codey’s long public service career. “Throughout his half century of public service, Gov. Codey was an unwavering advocate for New Jersey’s children and families and a tireless champion for mental health. Among many lasting impacts of his legacy, his work on gun violence prevention has made New Jersey’s schools and community safer for generations of students.”
The association also noted Codey’s dedication to the state. “He devoted his entire career to serving the people of New Jersey with integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to democracy and good government. Today, we honor his legacy and remember his lasting impact on our state.”
