The New Jersey Gasoline, Convenience Store, and Automotive Association (NJGCA) has officially changed its name to the New Jersey Energy Marketers Group (NJEMG). This move is part of a broader strategy to expand membership and better represent the entire supply chain, including fuel distributors and other industry suppliers.
The change follows months of planning by the association’s Board of Directors. The rebranding marks a new phase for an organization that has been representing businesses serving motorists in New Jersey since 1937.
“By broadening our base, we strengthen our collective voice,” said Eric Blomgren, Executive Director of NJEMG. “NJEMG will continue to provide strong legislative advocacy, regulatory engagement, timely industry information, and collaborative resources that support innovation, fairness, and clarity in an increasingly complex energy and retail environment.”
Blomgren noted that the association has changed names several times over its 89-year history to reflect changes in the marketplace. “The industries we represent are changing, and our organization is built to meet that future,” he said.
He also emphasized NJEMG’s ongoing role as a resource for policymakers: “We are here to help decision-makers understand how laws and regulations affect small businesses, their employees, and consumers across New Jersey.”
Ebbie Ashabi, President of NJEMG, explained that the transition allows the group to better reflect both current members and those shaping the industry’s future. “With thousands of locations statewide and tens of thousands of employees, our members are essential to New Jersey’s economy and local communities, and they deserve strong, modern representation,” Ashabi said.
Currently, NJEMG represents more than 6,500 locations across New Jersey—including about 2,300 gas stations—that together sell 4.5 billion gallons of motor fuel each year. The association’s members employ over 45,000 people with a combined annual payroll exceeding $1.5 billion. Most member businesses remain independently or franchisee-owned small businesses with fewer than ten employees.
NJEMG continues as a nonprofit trade association focused on serving its dues-paying members in sectors such as motor fuel retailing, convenience stores, and automotive repair shops.
