RWJBarnabas Health has stated that it will continue to follow recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the New Jersey Department of Health, and more than 67 medical societies to provide universal Hepatitis B vaccinations for newborns. This decision comes as New Jersey chooses not to adopt new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding the vaccine.
“RWJBarnabas Health remains in alignment with the guidance of the American Academy of Pediatrics, New Jersey Department of Health and more than 67 medical societies to maintain universal Hepatitis B birth dose recommendations as a best practice,” said a spokesperson for RWJBarnabas Health.
Su Wang, MD, MPH, an Internal Medicine provider with RWJBH Medical Group and a specialist in Hepatitis B, discussed these issues in an interview on NJ Spotlight News. The interview can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmBRHxjn6ks.
New Jersey’s stance reflects ongoing support among state health authorities and major medical organizations for maintaining routine administration of the hepatitis B vaccine to all newborns.
