The New Jersey Department of the Treasury’s Division of Taxation has started sending explanatory letters to senior homeowners who submitted the PAS-1 Combined Property Tax Relief application earlier this year. These letters specify the property tax relief benefit amounts that applicants are eligible for under three programs: Senior Freeze (Property Tax Reimbursement), ANCHOR, and StayNJ.
According to the Department, the letters detail how each benefit was calculated and inform recipients about their eligibility. The Stay NJ Task Force had recommended in its report to the Governor and Legislature that these letters be sent before the November tax bill.
Payments for property tax relief are being distributed on a rolling basis, with applicants expected to receive payments over the coming weeks. The Division of Taxation advises recipients to carefully review their letters and verify all information used in determining their benefits. If an applicant believes there is incorrect information in their letter, they should respond in writing within 30 days and include supporting documentation.
The Department also reminds seniors who have not yet filed their PAS-1 Combined Property Tax Relief application that the deadline is October 31, 2025. Eligible residents aged 65 or older, or those receiving Social Security Disability benefits, can apply online or by mail through propertytaxrelief.nj.gov.
