The Vascular Non-Invasive Laboratory at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, part of RWJBarnabas Health, has received Gold Milestone recognition from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for maintaining accreditation for 30 consecutive years. This recognition highlights the laboratory’s ongoing adherence to national standards in vascular testing.

In September 2025, the facility was granted a new three-year IAC accreditation in Vascular Testing, covering Extracranial Cerebrovascular Testing, Peripheral Venous Testing, and Peripheral Arterial Testing. These accreditations reflect Newark Beth Israel’s sustained commitment to quality patient care in this field.

Darrell K. Terry, Sr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, stated: “This milestone represents far more than longevity—it reflects our team’s dedication to precision, consistency, and compassionate care. For over 30 years, our vascular lab has upheld the highest national standards to ensure patients receive accurate diagnoses and the best possible outcomes.”

Vascular testing plays a role in detecting serious health conditions such as heart disorders and stroke through procedures performed in hospitals and outpatient settings.

Founded in 1973 by Dr. Bruce Brener—now Director of the Vascular Center at RWJBarnabas Health—the Vascular Laboratory was New Jersey’s first such facility. The IAC evaluates labs based on staff qualifications, physician oversight, imaging protocols, quality assurance measures, and patient care practices.

Mary Lally, CEO of the IAC said: “We are extremely proud to recognize the 30-year, first group of accredited vascular testing facilities through the Gold Milestone recognition program. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care using accreditation as a quality metric.”

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a regional teaching hospital with 665 beds that provides comprehensive healthcare services. It operates one of the nation’s top ten heart transplant centers—having completed over 1,100 transplants—and offers advanced programs for lung disease and cardiac valve procedures including minimally invasive replacements (TAVRs). The medical center also houses extensive cancer treatment resources through partnerships with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Additionally, it features preventive health programs like The Beth Greenhouse for community wellness education. Children’s Hospital of New Jersey is located within Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and provides more than 30 specialized pediatric services including New Jersey’s largest Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

The IAC is an organization that accredits diagnostic imaging facilities across multiple specialties to improve patient care nationwide. Since its founding in 1991 it has accredited more than 14,000 sites across various modalities including vascular testing.
