New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has signed Executive Order No. 7, which places a 90-day pause on new rule proposals and the adoption of pending regulations in the state. The move aims to ensure a more affordable environment for residents and businesses.
Michele Siekerka, president and CEO of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), released a statement supporting the governor’s decision. “NJBIA very much supports Governor Sherrill’s signing of this EO today.
“Obviously, the business community has been very concerned about pending regulations left over from the Murphy administration which we feel will do great damage to the economy – most notably the proposed Department of Labor’s independent contractor rules, data privacy rules under the Attorney General’s office, and several others.
“But beyond that, Governor Sherrill’s pause on the proposed regs is simply good governance. With this change in leadership, it’s important to take account of what is pending and what is proposed to ensure it aligns with the Sherrill administration’s priorities.
“As I often say, a good process yields a fair result. NJBIA thanks Governor Sherrill for this timeout and we look forward to continuing conversations about proposed regulations, both current and future.”
The NJBIA serves as one of New Jersey’s largest employer organizations and represents private-sector employers across various industries including manufacturing, retail, wholesale, contracting, and services. The association provides advocacy efforts, resources for business prosperity, cost-saving benefits, and works to build partnerships between businesses, government entities, and educational institutions (official website). Established in 1910 as the New Jersey Manufacturers Association before broadening its membership in later decades (official website), NJBIA maintains its headquarters at 10 West Lafayette Street in Trenton (official website). Michele Siekerka currently leads NJBIA as president and chief executive officer (official website).
