The Pre-Professional Advising Center (P-PAC) announced on Mar. 10 that its director, Chantal Vergara, and pre-law advisor, Maddie Ferrans, were selected to present at the 2026 Southwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors (SWAPLA) Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The event brought together pre-law advising professionals from across the region to discuss best practices and support for students interested in legal careers.

The topic of their interactive workshop was building and sustaining a successful pre-law advising center. Vergara and Ferrans discussed strategies for developing effective advising structures, creating meaningful student programming, and supporting students as they prepare for law school applications. Their session also highlighted the importance of student engagement and strong institutional partnerships in preparing students for law school.

In addition to leading their workshop, the P-PAC team participated in sessions with colleagues from other institutions. These sessions covered topics such as supporting underrepresented students, emotional intelligence in advising, LSAT preparation strategies, and navigating the Law School Admission Council platform. The discussions provided insight into new trends and resources that can help advisors better support aspiring law students.

According to the announcement, attending the conference allowed Vergara and Ferrans to share their expertise while learning from fellow advisors. They plan to bring back new ideas and strategies to further enhance P-PAC’s support for students pursuing law school.
