Preferred Behavioral Health Group, a nonprofit organization providing mental health, recovery, and prevention services in New Jersey, has announced new appointments to its Board of Trustees. Michael Kokes will serve as Board Chair and Jennifer Godoski as Vice Chair. The board also welcomed two new trustees: Catherine M. Cunningham, MD, and Pamela A. Major.

The organization said these leaders bring experience in business leadership, behavioral health, community empowerment, and innovation to PBHG’s mission of supporting individuals and families across the state.

Tara Chalakani, CEO of Preferred Behavioral Health Group, stated: “We are thrilled to welcome this new leadership team to our Board of Trustees. Each brings extraordinary talent, passion, and leadership that will help us advance our mission of delivering high-quality, compassionate behavioral health services. Their collective expertise will guide PBHG through its next chapter of growth and innovation.”

Michael Kokes is the founder and president of Kokes Properties and previously served as vice president at The Kokes Organization. He succeeds outgoing Chairman Randy Minniear. “PBHG plays a vital role in strengthening the mental health and well-being of our communities,” said Kokes. “I am honored to serve as board chairman and work alongside such dedicated professionals to support and expand the organization’s mission.”

Jennifer Godoski is Director of Policy and Government Affairs for New Jersey Resources. She has held roles in state government including Chief of Staff at the New Jersey Department of Transportation and has worked with several governors, members of Congress, and state legislators. Godoski serves on various boards including Crossroads of the American Revolution, NJSEED, Alliance for Action (Monmouth County Chapter), Jersey Shore Partnership, and Monmouth Ocean Development Council.

“I’m excited to serve as Vice Chair of Preferred Behavioral Health Group, an organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of so many New Jerseyans,” Godoski said. “I look forward to working with PBHG as they continue to set the gold standard for behavioral services in Central Jersey and beyond.”

Catherine M. Cunningham is Section Chief of Psychiatry at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Ocean University Medical Center and Southern Ocean Medical Center. She is board-certified in psychiatry with specialized training in perinatal mental health. In January she will become Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Carrier Clinic.

Pamela A. Major is known for her work building community capacity through roles such as founding the Monmouth County Stigma Free Coalition while working within Monmouth County Human Services Division’s Behavioral Health Division. She has focused on increasing awareness about mental health issues along with domestic violence and sexual assault.

Preferred Behavioral Health Group has provided behavioral healthcare since 1978 with a focus on trauma-informed care and inclusivity.
