Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital (BMSCH), both part of RWJBarnabas Health, have been named among Becker’s Hospital Review’s “100 Great Hospitals in America” for 2025. This marks the second consecutive year that these hospitals have received this recognition. According to Becker’s, the list highlights hospitals for their clinical performance, focus on patient safety, commitment to innovation, research and education, and efforts to provide strong patient experiences.
RWJUH is New Jersey’s largest academic medical center, operating in partnership with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers Cancer Institute. The hospital has 720 licensed inpatient beds and includes a dedicated Emergency Department as well as seven pediatric-only operating rooms. BMSCH is nationally ranked as a Best Children’s Hospital for 2025-26 by U.S. News & World Report.
RWJUH houses the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, which is New Jersey’s only freestanding cancer hospital and the state’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center through its affiliation with Rutgers Cancer Institute. The hospital also offers specialized services in heart and vascular care—including minimally invasive heart surgery and transplantation—cancer care, stroke care, neuroscience, orthopedics, bariatric surgery, and women’s health. It serves as a Level 1 Trauma Center and was the first designated Pediatric Trauma Center in New Jersey. The campus has played a role in emergency preparedness for special pathogens such as Ebola and MPOX.
In recent rankings by U.S. News & World Report for 2025-26, RWJUH placed fourth among regional hospitals in New Jersey and seventeenth in the New York Metro Area. The hospital earned nineteen “High Performing” ratings across three adult specialties and sixteen common adult procedures or conditions. RWJUH is one of seven hospitals worldwide to receive Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence six times consecutively. Additionally, it appeared on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best-in-State Hospitals for three years running: 2024, 2025, and 2026.
The Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center at RWJUH has met standards set by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association for advanced certification in stroke care. Other recognitions from The Joint Commission include Gold Seal Certifications for spine surgery, bariatric services, hip and knee replacement services, as well as ventricular assist device implantation.
