In September 2024, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in New Brunswick launched a multidisciplinary Cardiogenic Shock Program to provide round-the-clock care for patients experiencing life-threatening heart conditions. The program brings together experts from advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, advanced practice providers, and mobile health services.
The program’s team recently treated Sandra McQueeney, a 75-year-old great-grandmother who collapsed at home last September and was diagnosed with cardiogenic shock. This condition occurs when the heart suddenly cannot pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs, leading to rapid organ failure if not addressed immediately.
Dr. Chonyang L. Albert leads the Cardiogenic Shock Program at RWJUH. According to Dr. Albert: “Under the leadership of Dr. Albert, RWJUH launched its multidisciplinary Cardiogenic Shock program in September 2024, bringing together specialists from advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, advanced practice providers and mobile health services to deliver 24/7 care for the sickest patients.”
McQueeney received timely intervention through this program and successfully recovered after her treatment at RWJUH.
