RWJBarnabas Health has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopedic Programs” for 2025. This marks the third consecutive year that the health system has received this distinction.

Becker’s Hospital Review compiles its annual list to highlight hospitals and health systems across the United States that are leaders in orthopedic care. The organizations selected are noted for their comprehensive services, commitment to patient care, minimally invasive treatments, ongoing research, and clinical trials aimed at improving outcomes for those with musculoskeletal conditions.

According to the announcement, institutions on the list have received recognition from national organizations such as U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, and Healthgrades. They may also receive funding from entities like the National Institutes of Health and serve as official providers for professional sports teams. Many hold certifications such as the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval.

RWJBarnabas Health provides a range of orthopedic services for both adults and children at facilities throughout New Jersey. These services include emergency care, trauma care, diagnostic testing, minimally invasive surgery—including robotic procedures—sports medicine, and rehabilitation.

The organization reports that its orthopedic surgeons have developed techniques and implants used internationally. In addition to performing complex revision joint replacement surgeries, they teach through residency programs and publish research studies worldwide. RWJBarnabas Health also serves as a provider for athletes from teams such as the New Jersey Devils, Gotham FC, and Rutgers University.

“RWJBarnabas Health offers comprehensive orthopedic services for adults and children to help manage conditions caused by arthritis, degenerative joint disease, injuries, congenital issues and general wear and tear,” according to a statement from the organization.

The health system is described as New Jersey’s largest academic health system with 14 hospitals and over 9,000 affiliated physicians providing care at more than 700 locations statewide. It serves more than five million people annually.

“RWJBarnabas Health partners with its communities to build and sustain a healthier New Jersey,” according to information provided by the organization. “It provides patient-centered care in a compassionate manner and is the state’s largest safety-net provider and leader in addressing the social determinants of health.”

The organization is also among New Jersey’s largest private employers with over 44,000 employees contributing significantly to the state’s economy each year.
