The “Heart of the University” Retreat Series, co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership, will hold its fourth faculty retreat on March 26, 2026. The event is open to faculty and administrators of all faiths and aims to provide opportunities for input and guided reflection.
Professor Marisa Case will lead the retreat, focusing on “A Catholic Philosophy of Education: The Response – The Search for Knowledge and Transcendent Truth.” The session is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. in the Dean’s Conference Room on the main floor of Walsh Library, with an option to join via Microsoft Teams.
The retreat will explore how Catholic higher education presents a redemptive vision in the pursuit of knowledge and truth. It emphasizes that truth, goodness, faith, and reason are interconnected. According to organizers, a Catholic philosophy of education centers on the relationship between God and humanity, promoting holistic development that can shift intellectual, moral, and religious perspectives.
Discussion topics include how the university community might reach a shared understanding of this approach to education and whether it should be integrated into governance and teaching methods. Another focus is how Catholic universities can remain competitive amid an environment where data-driven outcomes are often prioritized.
Marisa Case recently retired from Seton Hall University after serving as an academic advisor and instructor at the Center for Academic Success. She is also recognized as a GEM Fellow in the Praxis Program of the Advanced Seminar on Mission.
Faculty interested in attending are asked to RSVP by March 25, 2026. Additional information is available through university contacts.
