Commuter students at Seton Hall University will soon have new opportunities to connect on campus, as the Office of Student Engagement and Gourmet Dining Services introduce Commuter Days in the Caf. The initiative allows commuter students to enjoy lunch and dinner every Wednesday in the university cafeteria at a reduced price of $8.50.

Previously, discounted days for commuters were held sporadically and often without much notice. This change comes after feedback from commuter students, who suggested making the event more frequent and predictable by designating Wednesdays as the official day.

The Office of Student Engagement is also collaborating with the Campus Inclusion Center on other programs to support commuter students. These include monthly Commuter Study Halls, held every third Monday in University Center Room 209, which provide space for studying and socializing. Additionally, Commuter Birthdays are celebrated on the first Monday of each month for those whose birthdays fall within that month; participants can register in advance to receive small gifts and take photos.

Another ongoing effort is the “Commuter Corner” series, where events with activities and food are scheduled during times convenient for commuters. Planning for these events has been enhanced since 2025 by the introduction of Commuter Ambassadors—commuter students who assist with organizing programs and serve as liaisons between their peers and Student Engagement staff.

According to university officials: “The Office of Student Engagement recognizes that commuter students are a diverse and integral part of the campus community, each experiencing their own unique journey at Seton Hall. With that in mind, programs like the Commuter Ambassadors and Commuter Days in the Caf are meant to shine a light on these students and make sure they are feeling connected to Seton Hall and to each other.”
