Taylor Rehmet, a long-serving leader in the International Association of Machinists (IAM) Union and a military veteran, was recently sworn in as the first rank-and-file union member to serve in the Texas State Senate. The event marked a notable moment for labor advocates in the state.

Rehmet has held multiple leadership positions within his union before making the move to public office. He described his new role as a continuation of his commitment to advocating for workers’ rights. “He explicitly pledges to address critical issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security and public education,” according to Rehmet.

The inauguration was attended by members of the labor community who celebrated this milestone for worker representation in government.
