The U.S. Census Bureau has published new statistics detailing state-to-state migration flows and place of birth for 2024. The data, released on January 21, 2026, offer insight into patterns of geographic mobility across the United States.
The newly available State-to-State Migration Flows table provides estimates of the number of people moving between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and those coming to the United States from abroad. Additionally, a separate table shows estimates of current residents in these locations based on their place of birth.
These statistics are derived from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates. The release aims to help policymakers and researchers understand how populations shift within the country and internationally.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau: “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.”
