Union members in Washington, D.C. have set up a food pantry to support those affected by the ongoing government shutdown, which has now lasted over 30 days. The initiative provides canned goods to the public and seeks donations for local food banks that are helping laid-off federal workers. Among those impacted are members of the IAM Union and NFFE-IAM.

The move comes as federal SNAP funding is close to running out, increasing concerns about food insecurity among furloughed employees.
