United Way of Greater Newark has announced the relaunch of its Women United of Greater Newark network. The group is made up of women leaders and advocates who aim to support households identified as Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) in overcoming financial challenges. Their goal is to help 157,000 families achieve financial security by 2028.
Catherine Wilson, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Newark, said, “Organization and advocacy are essential to creating meaningful change in our community, and Women United of Greater Newark is leading the charge to restore financial stability in our city. Together, we are helping to build a future where financial hardship is replaced with financial confidence, empowering individuals and families across our community to thrive.”
Maria Vizcarrondo, chair of Women United of Greater Newark, added: “For every dollar invested, hour volunteered and connection made through the Women United network, the Greater Newark community moves closer to a future where families have the tools necessary to build generational wealth. I look forward to working alongside such incredible women leaders to make our community a better place.”
Women United aims to create an environment where residents can save for emergencies, access affordable childcare, and reach their potential at work. The local chapter forms part of a global movement involving more than 70,000 women across 165 communities.
