The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority has announced ongoing redevelopment projects in the Wildwoods, with several major openings and upgrades scheduled for 2026.
A central addition is The Wild Resort, a five-story hotel set to open in summer 2026 at Glenwood Avenue and the Boardwalk. The property will include 75 luxury rooms ranging from standard accommodations to suites, many with private balconies overlooking the ocean. Amenities will feature a fitness center, gift shop specializing in local memorabilia, a second-floor restaurant, and an outdoor pool. Retail options on the boardwalk level will include Starbucks, It’s Sugar candy store, and a family-owned pizzeria.
The revitalization of the Wildwoods Boardwalk continues into 2026. Reconstruction efforts this winter focus on North Wildwood between 24th and 26th Avenues, aiming for completion by April. Meanwhile, multi-phase improvements continue in other sections of the boardwalk with new decking and tram car tracks targeted for spring or summer openings. Upgrades include reconstructed base supports, new timber decking, signage, railings, lighting, and ADA-accessible ramps. These improvements are funded through local, state, and federal sources.
Another project involves expanding the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier on Heather Avenue. In 2026, construction will extend the pier by 1,250 feet into the ocean to enhance its role as a popular spot for fishing and gatherings.
A new two-story restaurant is under construction at the site of Exit 6ix restaurant at 100 West Walnut Avenue in North Wildwood. The renovation includes multiple dining spaces across levels as well as an outdoor courtyard and rooftop deck.
Additionally, a Super Wawa is being built at Schellenger and New Jersey Avenue in Wildwood to replace Rite Aid. This location will feature Doo Wop-inspired architectural elements that reflect mid-century design traditions unique to the area.
The iconic Morey’s Piers’ Giant Wheel Ferris wheel is undergoing refurbishment ahead of the upcoming season. All gondolas are being updated to provide smoother rides while maintaining panoramic views from one of the tallest wheels on the East Coast.
The region’s dining sector has grown significantly with new restaurants offering diverse cuisine options including seafood and Italian fare—many establishments also offer waterfront seating.
Wildwoods continues to brand itself as “the ‘Event Capital of the East Coast,’” hosting over 160 festivals and events each year for various age groups: “For the latest 2026 events schedule,” visitors are directed to https://wildwoodsnj.com/events-calendar/.
Major annual events returning in 2026 include:
– Barefoot Country Music Festival from June 18-21 featuring more than forty country music acts,
– Thunder Over the Waves Airshow honoring America’s Heroes on September 11 (practice) and September 12 (main event),
– The Race of Gentleman Vintage Car & Motorcycle Beach Drag Races,
– Bulls On The Beach Rodeo,
– Two Boardwalk Classic Car Shows,
– Weekly Friday Night fireworks during summer,
among others.
According to organizers: “The Wildwoods’ annual calendar of events not only draws visitors to the family resort but also provides additional activities and entertainment outlets to those already visiting for vacation or business.”
With offerings that range from sporting tournaments to food festivals—and even a national marbles championship—the destination seeks to distinguish itself among resort communities along the coast.
